FLASHBACK:
Thirty centuries ago, Thun’da and the Acheron army attacked Stygia. Thun’da’s weapon the Scarlet Sword was super awesome.
SYNOPSIS:
Count Grondee is building a castle in the ruins of an Acheron outpost. He finds a sword and it possesses him. Now Thun’da, he slaughters his family to quench the Scarlet Sword’s thirst. Weeks later, Conan is chopping wood for some farmers. One of Grondee’s daughters (Aleta) comes crashing through, followed by rampaging warriors. Conan fights them and meets Thun’da/Grondee. As they fight Aleta is killed, and Conan kills Grondee. Capt. Kaanga picks up the Scarlet Sword and is possessed by Thun’da. Helliana arrives, saves Conan and they retreat. Thun’da swears to kill Conan, because his sword wounded the Cimmerian.

NOTE:
Conan references CO:LOTS as if it were relatively recent. Also, next issues says we’re in Koth (which is south of Zamora).

CONAN: SCARLET SWORD #2 (January 1999)

SYNOPSIS:
Conan and Helliana kill some warriors and take their horses. Thun’da tells his men to follow Conan. Conan and Helliana arrive at the small town Potosi. They notice Thun’da approaching, so Conan leaves to draw him away from the town; Helliana stays behind. Thun’da follows Conan but tells his warriors to plunder Potosi. Conan kills Thun’da’s men in an avalanche and faces off against Thun’da. Helliana tries to organize the townspeople to fight back against the attacking warriors. Conan kills Kaanga and picks up the Scarlet Sword, and of course he’s possessed by Thun’da.

CONAN: SCARLET SWORD #3 (February 1999)

FLASHBACK:
3,000 years ago, a wizard created the Great Guardian to defend Potosi against the Acheronians. Thun’da fought it once and ran away.
SYNOPSIS:
Thun’da’s warriors plunder Potosi. Helliana learns about the Great Guardian statue in town and says they should activate it, but no one really believes the story. Helliana dances for the statue and it comes to life. Thun’da fights it, and when he stabs the statue in the face Conan is returned to normal. However, the Great Guardians is now possessed by Thun’da. Suddenly, the sword’s curse makes the Great Guardians kill itself. The town celebrates Conan’s victory. Conan and Helliana ride off for the next town.
