Marvels Snapshots Captain America

Post by Leoparis »

The issue revisits the Madbomb saga. It extends it over a longer period than eight consecutive issues without break.

It addresses the urban decay of the South Bronx in the 70s when the phrase "The South Bronx is burning" was coined. There was also looting during the 1977 blackout.

Pages 1-7 Riot scene from CA 193 (Jan 76). Falcon action added.
Page 8 DD 133 (May 76), ASM 157 (Jun 76), IM 86-87 (May-June 76).
9-13 Felix Waterhouse approached by AIM
14 After some time we have the end of CA 200 (Aug 76)
15-20 Felix starting at AIM
21-27 Cap, Falcon and IM vs Wrecking Crew (doesn't match any story to my knowledge). After Iron Fist 11-12 Feb-Apr 77. Maybe the blackout in MS:CA is meant to reflect the actual NYC blackout of July 1977. AIM is active in ASM 171 and early issues of Ms. Marvel. A villain called Blackout appears in Nova 19 (May 1978). There is a blackout in ASM 187, which references an earlier one in Godzilla.
28 "A few days later." Tony Stark, Captain America decide to help the neighborhood.
29-30 Captain America, Falcon on construction site (for what it's worth, there are several scenes of construction sites in the 70s, Ms. Marvel 14, Feb 78, comes to mind, unfortunately it's in Boston. There is one in ASM Annual 13, 1979, along with a reference to the New York blackout.)

For purposes of chronology, we could have four or five segments: 1-7, 8-20, 21-27, 28 (or just 21-28), 29-30

The added scenes from the first segment for Falcon:
MSNAP:CA (2-3) takes place between CA 193 4:5 and 4:6.
MSNAP:CA (4:3 - 4:4) takes place between CA 193 6:1 & 6:2

Cap & Falcon break up as a team shortly after IF 12 when Falcon joins the SHIELD super-agents in CA 217 so the fight vs the Wrecking Crew occurs before. Then Cap loses track of Falcon's whereabouts until CA 228-231. This is enough time for launching a construction project and Cap & Falcon can show up on the construction site once they are reunited--after CA 231 (11:5)--or preferably after the Falcon leaves the Avengers in A 194.

NOTES:

I have some slight differences compared to Leoparis’s chronologies above for Cap, Falcon and Iron Man, and formatted to the MCP standard.

Also, i’m not really seeing a need to place CA:M/SNAP 1 (29 - 30) so far after the rest of the story just to line it up with other construction projects. One of the main points of the story is that the South Bronx has been neglected. This construction is simply the start of the South Bronx rebuild.
