Conan and Zenobia’s second child is mentioned here; he’s an infant at the time and is a boy. CONAN SAGA #92 says this is Taurus. The flashback says Zenobia recently gave birth to their third child, a girl. CONAN SAGA #92 says this is Radegund. Neither actually appears here.

They come across a skull shaped mountain and crash; a gust of noxious fumes disoriented their wyverns. It’s been almost a year since KCO 1 and four and a half years since SAVSCO 30.

As Fort Wakla burns, Thanara escapes with the unconscious Conan, who later awakens in the dungeons of Aghrapur as King Yezdigerd’s prisoner.
SYNOPSIS:
Count Trocero continues telling his story to Conn.

NOTE:
Adapted from the novel by Björn Nyberg and L. Sprague de Camp.

Followed by three pin-ups by various artists.

Conan is fairly specific in recalling previous encounters with Yin Allal and Veziz Shah, and an editor’s note points us to “many issues of Savage Sword of Conan.” I don’t know for sure, but I have a feeling these characters have (or will) appeared before.

KING CONAN #7 (September 1981)
By Roy Thomas & John Buscema

APPEARANCES:
King Conan (also in fb), Conn, Count Trocero, Gen. Pallantides (op), King Yezdigerd (in fb) & his army (in fb, inc Ardashir, Shapur, Vardan, Uthghiz), Thanara (in fb), Rolf (friend of Conan’s, warrior, in fb), Khosru (fisherman, in fb), Red Brotherhood (some from SAVSCO 38, in fb, inc Yanak, Artus), a winged demon (in fb), Yah Chieng (bts in fb), Vendhya residents (in fb, inc Yasmina, Chengir)

Leading the Turanians to uncharted islands, Conan tricks them into crashing their ship in shallow waters and attacks. Conan decapitates Yezdigerd, but a demon abducts Thanara; Conan names Rolf the new captain of the Red Brotherhood and follows the demon east. Weeks later in Vendhya, Conan is summoned by another old acquaintance, Yasmina, now ruler of Vendhya. The pair have a fun and frisky night (um, he’s trying to rescue his wife…). Conan is awakened by approaching assassins; he fights and kills most of them and Yasmina kills the last, her cousin Chengir as it turns out. Yasmina asks Conan to rule Vendhya by her side, but he reveals he’s already married and is on a hission to rescue his wife. Before he leaves for the Himelian Mountains they have a bit more fun (um…).
SYNOPSIS:
Count Trocero continues telling his story to Conn.

NOTE:
Adapted from the novel by Björn Nyberg and L. Sprague de Camp.

Followed by five pin-ups by various artists.

As with the previous issue, it really seems like Rolf, Yanak, Artus and Yasmina may appear again somewhere in Conan’s past.

KING CONAN #8 (December 1981)
By Roy Thomas & John Buscema

APPEARANCES:
King Conan (also in fb), Conn, Count Trocero, Gen. Pallantides (op), Queen Zenobia (in fb), Yah Chieng (in fb & fb-fb) & his guards (in fb), Hill-Men (in fb), Khitai / Paikang / Shaulun residents (in fb, inc Kang Hsiu (also in fb-fb), Kang Lou-Dze, Leng Chi), imprisoned Turanian mercenaries (in fb, inc Lyco), a yeti (in fb), a giant lizard (in fb), a winged demon (in fb), CROM! (in fb)

FLASHBACK:
Yah Chieng attacks Paikang (within Khitai) and declares himself ruler. Soon after, Kang Hsiu’s wife is killed but she declares a warrior king from the west will save them (fb-fb). For months, King Conan makes his way through snow, swamp and jungle before finally entering Khitai then Paikang. He finds a woman (Kang Lou-Dze) being sacrificed to a giant lizard and saves her (then they have sexy times. Um, again…). She leads him to her village where he learns how Yah Chieng took over, finds he fits a prophecy of theirs and recruits an army to overthrow Yah Chieng. They sneak into the capital during a celebration and Conan enters the dungeons where he recruits some imprisoned Turanian mercenaries. After fighting the winged demon Conan approaches Yah Chieng who transforms the captive Zenobia into a tiger, then a skeleton, to fight Conan. Conan attacks the skeleton which turns out to be an illusion, but it causes him to discard the ring Pelias gave him (back in KCO 5). With the protection gone Yah Chieng is able to overpower Conan with his magics. As Conan nears death he’s pulled away by Crom, who interferes in the proceedings (a rare thing for Crom) and frees Conan. Conan kills Yah Chieng and frees Zenobia as the city around them falls to the rebellion.
SYNOPSIS:
Count Trocero finishes telling his story to Conn.

NOTE:
Adapted from “Conan the Avenger” by and L. Sprague de Camp and Björn Nyberg.

Followed by three pin-ups by various artists.

It’s heavily implied that Conn was conceived the night Conan rescued Zenobia.

Post by Col_Fury »

KING CONAN #9 (March 1982)
By Doug Moench & John Buscema

APPEARANCES:
King Conan (also in fb), Conn, Count Trocero, Dekanawatha Blood-Ax (Pict leader), Akenak (Dekanawatha’s son), Diviatix (bts), Goranda Zek (Pict shaman) & his priests, Brown Man (resurrected giant river demon), other Picts, giant snake

FLASHBACK:
As a youth in Cimmeria, Conan proved his manhood by breaking a bull’s neck with his bare hands.
SYNOPSIS:
King Conan takes his son to a diplomatic meeting with the Picts. Conn calms down a disagreement between the two leaders and then performs a trial of manhood with the Pict leader’s (Dekanawatha) son (Akenak). At first they’re adversaries, but when Conn saves Akenak from a giant snake they become friends. They’re captured by the new Pict shaman (Goranda Zek), who plans to overthrow Dekanawatha. The trial was a plot by the shaman to revive the Brown Man, a giant river demon who then attacks Conan and Dekanwatha. Conan barters with the Brown Man, who then kills the rebel Picts (but is killed when he wanders to far from the river). Conan and Dekanawatha kill Goranda Zek and his priests.

KING CONAN #10 (May 1982)
By Doug Moench & John Buscema

APPEARANCES:
King Conan, Conn, Bolsat (Conn’s trainer), Queen Zenobia, Queen Chabela (bts), King Olivero (bts), Count Trocero, Mimus (sorcerer), Darweena (Mimus’ daughter), Aquilonians, giant lizards (inc “Father of Set”)

SYNOPSIS:
King Conan sends Conn away for combat training and Zenobia leaves for a wedding. Meanwhile, people plot rebellion. Growing frustrated with tending to state matters, Conan jumps at the chance for some action when an old man (Mimus) asks him to rescue his daughter (Darweena). Unaware it’s a trap, Conan saves Darweena and defeats some giant lizards. Trying again, Mimus returns with a thank you gift, a statue and a necklace carved from the lizard’s tooth. The statue transforms into the giant lizard and attacks Conan. Darweena, feeling bad about trying to kill the man who saved her, helps Conan defeat the lizard. Mimus dies.

KING CONAN #11 (July 1982)
By Doug Moench & Alan Kupperberg

APPEARANCES:
King Conan & his army (inc Count Trocero, Prospero), Queen Zenobia, Darweena, Alcemides, Diviatix, Taurus (blacksmith), Death-Shaper (demon) & his followers/worshippers (inc Falen, Cypios, Cynnera), Nemedians, Pentagar Zex (mentioned)

SYNOPSIS:
King Conan learns from Darweena that there are several factions who want to overthrow him. Soon after, someone tries to assassinate him. Conan takes the guy’s medallion and asks Alcemides what it is; he says it’s from the cult that worships the Death-Shaper. Conan meets with Diviatix who warns him about the Death-Shaper. That night, Conan’s sword is stolen (by Falen). The next day Conan goes looking for the cult in Nemedia alone. A month later Conan finds Falen, then the Death-Shaper cult. Conan quickly foils the plot, defeats the Death-Shaper and returns home.

NOTE:
There’s a whole subplot here about a warrior needing the right sword or else he’ll fail. Um, I’ve read plenty of stories where Conan just picks up a sword from a guy he just killed and everything worked out just great. Also, Conan cheats on Zenobia again.

KING CONAN #12 (September 1982)
By Doug Moench & Ron Frenz

APPEARANCES:
King Conan & his army, Conn (also in fb), Queen Zenobia, Taurus, Radegund, Alcemides, Darweena, Aquilonians (inc Bolsat, Bellus, Taurus), Murgor-Tsogga (elder demon) & his beast servants, Greymane (Conn’s horse), Mimus (in magical recording)

FLASHBACK:
Conn escapes from the beasts (during main story).
SYNOPSIS:
King Conan learns from the philosopher Alcemides of a bad omen. Meanwhile, Darweena is cleaning out her dead father’ things and is taken over by a spell; in a trance she unleashes some beasts who start abducting people in town. Conn returns from his soldier’s training and decides to wander town before going home and of course gets abducted. Conan learns that Conn went missing in a graveyard, fights some beasts and discovers tunnels underneath. Alcemides explains the beasts are gathering sacrifices to that Murgor-Tsogga can return to this realm. Conan gets a silver sword, finds Conn and defeats Murgor-Tsogga with Darweena’s help. Darweens dies.

NOTE:
There’s Taurus & Radegund! They only appear for one panel (and Taurus’ wrapped in a blanket), but there they are! Radegund is probably a year or so old and Taurus is an infant.

KING CONAN #13 (November 1982)

King Conan & his army, Queen Zenobia, Conn, Jumbassa, Scyllana, Urazai (prev 3 sorcerers, see NOTE), Aquilonians (inc Shareen), Kushite cannibals, dragons, homunculi

Lured to the Barachan Isles Conan finds three towers. Jumbassa attacks first with lions, winged creatures (both illusions) and cannibals, but Conan kills him. Not wanting to waste time Conan builds a glider to get to the next tower, where Conan is seduced by Scyllana’s illusions of beautiful women, but Conan kills Scyllana. While Conan approaches the last tower, rebels start an attack in Tarantia (Aquilonia’s capital). Conan defeats Urazai’s homunculi and forces Urazai to fly them back to Aquilonia on his dragon. When they arrive Urazai is killed and Conan quells the rebellion.

FLASHBACK:
Centuries ago, Andromedus fashioned Aquilonia into a nation, becoming its king (centuries ago). Alcemides’ compass acts funny (years ago).
SYNOPSIS:
King Conan decides to eliminate whatever magic source there is within Aquilonia so no more wizards will want to attack his nation. He learns from Alcemides that Aquilonia’s first king went missing centuries ago. Zenobia demands to go with; Conan eventually agrees. They find a hollow mountain where Xandor Kan has been amassing magical power for centuries. He has been breeding his undead ones to sacrifice to his source of power (a transformed spirit of Andromedus) and has been siphoning that to empower himself. Conan eventually defeats Xandor Kan with Andromedus’ help and the mountain is revealed to be a volcano when it erupts.

NOTE:
Zenobia says her father was a soldier. CO@ 5 names him Lord Godfor.

They learn Malakon, a muckety muck in Zingara is behind the recent rebellion in Aquilonia and return to help Conan put a stop to it.
