As mentioned in my last post, the Hulk sequence in Tales to Astonish 75/2 to 79/2 is placed too early. I would split Tales to Astonish 75/2 differently so that a Tales to Astonish 75/2 (1-6:5) segment stays with the Tales to Astonish 70/2-74/2 sequence. Then there is some time required for the Hulk to hop to Washington and then Tales to Astonish 75/2 (7:1-12) to 79/2 should be placed between Thor 127 and 128 because of Hercules' timeline. Unfortunately, this is one occasion where Marvels 3 is way off. But even if my solution places Marvels 3 (10:1) before Marvels 3 (6-8:3), I think I can live with that if that means that the original timeline is respected.

I don't know why MCP split Tales to Astonish 78 this way, but the panel numbering seems off. Also, as reflected in your list, the whole segment on Krang's treason and Attuma vs Avengers is closely related and spans over a few hours. The following issues, Avengers 27-29 should be kept together because they occur over a short period of time and have not time gap between them. Given the references in the comics, Avengers 29 occurs while Thor is helping Hercules in Thor 129 and while Iron Man visited the Avengers HQ as his plant has been closed down in Tales of Suspense 79. This means that the placement for previous Journey Into Mystery/Thor 124-128 is too far in the timeline. I would place Journey Into Mystery/Thor 124-127 together (they all occur on the same day) anywhere before Tales to Astonish 78. Thor 128-129 should go right after the Krang and Attuma stories. Same goes for Tales of Suspense 79-80 and Tales to Astonish 82 who are part of the same storyline involving Namor and Iron Man. As for the Thor 130-133 segment, I only placed the Thor 130 (1-3:2) segment with Thor taking Hercules home and would move the rest in the DEFEAT OF GALACTUS to MASTER PLAN OF THE MANDARIN list because it occurs over several days but at the same time as X-Men 26.
Here is my take:

Journey into Mystery 124-125
Thor 126-127
[...] Whatever Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and X-Men issues you see fit. Only the Daredevil and Spider-Man issues are interconnected.
Tales to Astonish 75/2 (7:1-7:4): The Hulk arrives in Washington.
Marvels 3 (10:1): The army fires at the Hulk in Washington. (This is an example where the timeline in Marvels 3 does not fit with the original comics.
Tales to Astonish 75/2 (7:5-12): Gen. Ross fires the T-Gun at the Hulk and sends him into the future.
Tales to Astonish 76/2-79/2: Hulk finds the Executioner in the future and plays a role in a battle between him and King Arrkam. When he gets back to the present, he crosses paths with Hercules who is on his way to Hollywood.
Tales to Astonish 78 (1 - 6:2): Puppet Master prepares to take control of the Sub-Mariner. Namor dives off Hank Pym's ship.
Marvel Monsters: Monsters on the Prowl 1 (1 - 3)
Avengers 26 (1 - 4): Hawkeye acts like a jerk towards Cap's instructions. Again!
Tales to Astonish 78 (1 - 6:3) ~ Avengers 26 (5:1) Namor swims to New-York.
Tales to Astonish 78 (7:1): Pym's crew have controlled the fire in the ship.
Tales to Astonish 78 (7:2-8:1) ~ Avengers 26 (5:2 - 5:6): Janet decides to fly to New York to warn the Avengers of Namor's threat.
Avengers 26 (5:7 - 20): The Wasp is abducted by Attuma and signals the Avengers who go to her rescue.
Tales to Astonish 78 (8:2-8:4): Namor arrives at the Puppet Master's sanctum.

Tales to Astonish 79 (1-7): Namor escapes the military and dives in the Hudson River.
Avengers 27 (1-4): Hawkeye captures the Beetle who broke into Avengers HQ.
Marvels 3 (6 - 8:3): New York is flooded. Hawkeye warns the Coast Guard of Attuma's role in it.

Tales to Astonish 80-81: Namor defeats the Behemoth. Krang forces Dorma to become his wife and Namor goes mad when he hears about it.
Avengers 27 (5 - 20:3): Hawkeye joins the Avengers in their battle and they defeat Attuma.
Marvels 3 (8:4 - 9:1): People think it is the Apocalypse.

Tales of Suspense 79 (5:3-12): Still exhausted after an unfruitful visit to Avengers HQ, Iron Man decides to gives himself to the authorities to get to Washington, but he is attacked by Krang.

Daredevil 12
Silver Surfer 1 (36:6)-FB
Fantastic Four 44
Fantastic Four 45 (1 - 4)
Marvels 3 (9:4)
Tales to Astonish 70/2 (4:4 - 10)
Tales to Astonish 71/2-74/2
Tales to Astonish 75/2 (1 - 7:5)
Marvels 3 (10:1)
Tales to Astonish 75/2 (7:6 - 10)
Tales to Astonish 76/2-79/2
Immortal Hulk 4 (4:5 - 5:1)
Daredevil 13
Daredevil 14 (1 - 12)
Marvels 3 (10:2)
Daredevil 14 (13 - 20)
Daredevil 13 story picks up immediately after previous issue that ends with Maa-Gor approaching the unconscious Daredevil and Ka-Zar struggling against a carnivorous plant. Because of Marvels 3 timeline, I would suggest splitting it this way:

Daredevil 12
Daredevil 13 (1-11): Ka-Zar burns the killer plant. The Plunderer saves Daredevil from Maa-Gor then meets his brother, captures him then they leave in his sub.
[...]
Daredevil 13 (12-20): The Plunderer arrives at his castle with Ka-Zar and Daredevil. Those two manage to get away, but they are both framed for a murder.
Daredevil 14 (1 - 12): Ka-Zar is captured by the police while Daredevil escapes. The Plunderer find the Plunder stone and makes a weapon of it. Daredevil hitches a ride home aboard the Plunderer's sub.
Marvels 3 (10:2): Ka-Zar's arrest hits the news along with Daredevil's accusation of murder.
Daredevil 14 (13 - 20): Daredevil defeats the Plunderer who confesses before a judge that the murder was committed by someone else.

My last nickpicking for this set:
StrayLamb wrote: Fri Feb 01, 2019 12:15 am Engagement of Reed and Sue to Defeat of Galactus:
[...]
Fantastic Four 44
Fantastic Four 45 (1 - 4)
Marvels 3 (9:4)
[...]
Avengers 30 (1 - 2:4)
Fantastic Four 45 (6 - 8)
[...]
Marvels 3 (9:4) should be placed between Fantastic Four 44 and 45. It shows Dragon Man flying away from a collapsing building. FF 45 starts with the men trying to escape the fall. Page 4 shows the Dragon Man who has already landed.

There is no line for Sandman's attempt to break out of jail Fantastic Four 45 (5), but Fantastic Four 45 (6 - 8) follows with a "Meanwhile..." so I would settle for Fantastic Four 45 (5 - 8).

Another point I would make is that according the Official Index for Spider-Man, Spidey's appearance in Fantastic Four 36 occurs between Amazing Spider-Man 22 and 23. Therefore, I would move Amazing Spider-Man 23 and Gwen Stacy 1 (1 - 17) from the BIRTH OF THE AVENGERS to ENGAGEMENT OF REED AND SUE list and place right at the beginning of this list.

On final note, I don't understand why Strange Tales 145/2-146/2 would appear in next list instead of this one. They are independent stories and their publication date is June-July 1966. I would place them right after Strange Tales 145.

So to help you with all this, I reorganized your list according to my previous observations. As mentioned earlier, there might be a few discrepancies in the Marvels 3 timeline, but I tried to respect it the best way I could. I also tried to keep it as close to your initial list as possible, but you'll note that there are many, many changes that I put in bold. My previous post should be enough to understand my reasoning.

RobinHoodMtl wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:54 pm It is my understanding that your list was strongly influenced by the timeline established in Marvels 3 (great book, BTW) but as good as it is, that issue may contradict some of what had been established in the original 1965-1966 issues.
That is correct, Sir! On both points!
RobinHoodMtl wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:54 pmWasn't it established that the reason why Namor did not crash Reed and Sue's wedding is that he was on his Trident quest in Tales to Astonish 70-75? Same goes for the Hulk who was getting the Ultimate Machine for the Leader on the Watcher's homeworld in the Tales to Astonish 70/2-75/2 issues (and I'll get back to that in a future post). Shouldn't they be much closer to or even overlapping Fantastic Four Annual 3?
Sometimes earlier established reasons become superseded. Can you tell us where this was originally established? Or i'll look at it in your future post.
RobinHoodMtl wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:54 pmThe Thor segment when he returns to Earth to face once more the Absorbing Man starts in Journey into Mystery 120 (6:6 - 7:3), after a long stay in Asgard where Thor gets bored to death. The problem with the placement whole segment that ends in JIM 123 is that it is supposed to happen while the Avengers have disbanded thanks to the Enchantress's schemes, just as it is the case for Iron Man who is confronting the Mad Thinker in Tales of Suspense 72 (correctly placed in your list). I noted that you have inserted Avengers 22-FB between two segments of Journey into Mystery 122, and I assume it refers to the panel Avengers 22 (11:5), but the narrative does not imply that it is a flashback at all. Official Index for Avengers also place these three issues at the same time. That's why I would recommend moving the JIM 120 (6:6 - 7:3)-JIM 123 segment. This part could be broken down as follows:
Journey into Mystery 120 (6:6 - 7:3): Thor returns to Earth after passing a relatively long time in Asgard
Thor: Blood Oath 1-6
Journey into Mystery 120 (7:4 - 16): While Thor is seeking Jane, Loki rematerializes the helium Absorbing Man and sends him back to Earth.
[...]
Journey into Mystery 121: Thor n New York in huge battle against the Absorbing Man
Avengers 21 (1 - 20:2): Power Man and the Enchantress manage to publicly discredit the Avengers.
Marvels 3 (1 - 3)
Journey into Mystery 122 (1-9:1): During the battle, Loki teleports the Absorbing Man to Asgard. Thor finds Jane and is surprised by Hobbs who discovers his secret.
Avengers 21 (20:3 - 20:6): Avengers are forced to disband by the authorities.
Avengers 22 (1 - 11:3): The team members cope with their unemployment issues.
Avengers 22 (11:4): Iron Man is seen fighting the Awesome Android.
Journey into Mystery 122 (9:2-16): A short time later, Loki has convinced the Absorbing Man to attack Odin's palace while on Earth Thor accepts to take Hobbs to Asgard.
Tales of Suspense 72 (1 - 8:4)
Avengers 22 (11:5); Thor arrives in Asgard.
Avengers 22 (11:6): Giant-Man's whereabouts are unknown.
Tales of Suspense 72 (8:5 - 12:5):
Avengers 22 (12 - 20): Cap finds proof of the frame-up and restores the Avengers' good name.
Marvels 3 (4:1 - 4:2)
Tales of Suspense 72 (12:6 - 12:9)
Journey into Mystery 123: Thor and Odin defeat the Absorbing Man.
Yes, well.. there have been a couple of discussions relating to this..

Thor in A 22-FB in between pages JIM 122

So Thor's appearance in A 22 has been retconned as a FB so it can take place before FF@ 3, that's why we have A 22-FB in Thor's chronology, and A 22 in Iron Man's and Giant-Man's chronologies.

RobinHoodMtl wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:54 pmYour segment for Strange Tales 137-144 should be split. I would leave Strange Tales 137-141 (Hydra and the Betatron bomb) where it is. But the arc in Strange Tales 142-144 occurs during Captain America encounter with Batroc in Tales of Suspense 75/2-76/2. Therefore IMHO, the Batroc arc is placed way too far in your list. Here is my take on the 1965-1966 issues. I did not insert the later issues that could take place in between, but I took very much into account the original placement suggested in the Official Index (which places the Batroc Story between Avengers 25 and 26), the MCP lists as well as the references in the comics and it could be listed in a single block:
Avengers 23-24
Avengers 25 (1-4:5)
Avengers 25 (4:6-20)
Tales of Suspense 72/2-74/2: Cap eliminates the threat of the Sleepers but falls to an apparent death in the ocean.
Tales of Suspense 75/2 (1-3): Them has hired Batroc to steal the Inferno 42. Cap is saved by a passing ship.
Strange Tales 142: Fury is informed that Mentallo and the Fixer have joined forces. He contacts other SHIELD units who report that they still have not received the Inferno 42 and asks about Batroc's whereabouts. He gets captured by Mentallo and the Fixer.
Strange Tales 143: Tony Stark helps rescue Fury and SHIELD puts an end to the miniature H-Bomb.
Tales of Suspense 75/2 (1-9:3): Next day, Cap is recovering from his fall and crosses path with Agent 13. Batroc tries to steal the Inferno 42 from Agent 13.
Tales of Suspense 75/2 (9:4-10): Agent 13 flees with the Inferno 42.
Tales of Suspense 76/2: Batroc recovers Agent 13's cylinder and delivers it to Them. Agent 13 is sent to the hospital from radiation poisoning.
Marvels 3 (10:3 - 11:1): An example where this issue is unfortunately out of sequence here in the comics timeline, but I have a viable solution in next paragraph.
Strange Tales 144: Back in SHIELD HQ, Fury learns of an attack by the Druid on an atomic aircraft. Jasper Sitwell joins SHIELD.
Tales of Suspense 77 (2:3-4:3)-FB: The Mandarin has finished his creation of Ultimo.
Tales of Suspense 74-75: Iron Man must control Happy who has turned into the Freak.
Tales of Suspense 76 (1-7:3): Stark manages to get Happy back to normal and accepts to follow Sen. Byrd to Washington.
Tales of Suspense 76 (7:4-12): Right after they leave, Stark is abducted by the Mandarin.
Avengers Spotlight 22/2: History of the Swordsman
Strange Tales 145: SHIELD continues to investigate the Druid and his giant eggs.
Amazing Spider-Man 29-33

BUT... With my suggestions above, there is a problem because it places the Batroc sequence in Marvels 3 (10:3 - 11:1) between Marvels 3 (4:3 - 4:5) and Marvels 3 (5). It could be an error made by the writers of Marvels 3 who may have forgotten about this detail. It's hard to keep track after all these years and it is not the first and only time where the original story makes more sense than a later retelling. So I can live with this if this means we remain consistent with the Strange Tales 142 scene where Fury talks about Batroc going after Inferno 42. It is obvious that the Batroc sequence should go there.
Yeah, i thought we might have a problem with Batroc. That's okay, because Phil could be developing pics of Cap & Batroc in MARVELS 3 (10:3-11:1) some time after he took them. Your scheme here works for me, with the deletion of MARVELS 3 (10:3-11:1), which can remain where it is.

It's getting late, so i'll come back to your next posts later..

Sometimes earlier established reasons become superceded. Can you tell us where this was originally established? Or i'll look at it in your future post.
The Namor arc for the Trident quest is clearly referenced in Fantastic Four Annual 3 (page 18) where they explain that the impulse meant for the Sub-Mariner was intercepted by Attuma instead, because Namor was too deep into the ocean doing his quest. As for the Tales to Astonish issues, I do address some of it in another post, but I can't find in-book references to support that it occurs during the wedding. I did read about it somewhere that the reason why the Hulk was not present was because he was on the Watcher's homeworld too far to be reached by Doom's impulse, but I cannot recall if this was supported by any official reference. All I can say is that it perfectly makes sense. And if the Tales to Astonish are split as I suggest in my Feb 01, 2019 12:15 am post, my assumption and proposed timeline for the Hulk in Tales to Astohish does not affect Hulk's timeline in your list where there are no other Hulk story between FF Annual 3 and the current placement of Tales to Astonish 70/2.

Avengers #22 or Fantastic Four Annual #3
StrayLamb wrote: Thu Jun 14, 2018 6:23 pm In Thor: Official Index to the Marvel Universe, in the listing for JIM 122, it states Thor is "also in Av #22, '65 fb," so the appearance is listed as a Flashback there. I believe it was first postulated by George Olshevski.
About these two posts, 2010 edition of Avengers index for Avengers 22 removed the flashback reference but kept JIM 122. If no more recent official document to support it is a flashback, the only time Thor is seen "returning to Asgard" is between Journey Into Mystery 123 (1-2) and Journey Into Mystery 123 (3-16). As other users pointed out, the problem is that both Thor's Index and Avengers' Index maintained this cameo occurred during Journey Into Mystery #122 even if Thor was never on the Rainbow bridge or even returned to Asgard during this issue.

As for Thor's appearance in Fantastic Four Annual 3, Official Index for Thor places it after Journey Into Mystery 123. But Official Index for Avengers places FF Annual 3 between Avengers 18 and 19. Official Index for Iron Man (and Cap America) confirms this. It would have much simpler if Thor's appearance in FF Annual had been before Journey Into Mystery 121. And even then, the whole Thor sequence, from the moment he comes back to Earth after a long stay in Asgard in JIM 120 to the resolve of the Absorbing Man battle in JIM 123, lasts for no more than 1 day and there is no place for FF Annual #3 to occurs anywhere within that sequence. As much as I hate to do this, the only timeline that would work is by ignoring Thor's Index placement of FF Annual 3 (since it contradicts all other indexes and comics timelines) and splitting Journey into Mystery 120 (7:4 - 16) into Journey into Mystery 120 (7:4 - 12:5) and Journey into Mystery 120 (12:6 - 16). The first segment has to occur before Avengers 18 because of his visit at Avengers HQ. But there could be a time gap before Loki brings the Absorbing Man where Thor intervenes during Reed and Sue's wedding --yeah I know, it's a long shot, but it allows us to place Journey into Mystery 120 (12:6 - 16) just before JIM 121 where it belongs (no real time gap between the end of the first and the start of the second), at about the same time as the Avengers 21-24 issues. My first post in this discussion would remain about the same, except for the placement of the Avengers 22 appearance that I would place between Journey Into Mystery 123 (1-2) and Journey Into Mystery 123 (3-16), if we are to assume that the narrative of Avengers 22 is correct in saying the reason for Thor to be away is to fight the Absorbing Man in Asgard, and that the reference to JIM #22 is wrong.
So to resume this:

Journey into Mystery 120 (6:6 - 7:3)
Thor: Blood Oath 1-6
Journey into Mystery 120 (7:4 - 12:5): Thor is seeking Jane, Loki rematerializes the helium Absorbing Man and sends him back to Earth.
Uncanny X-Men 286 (4/5:9 - 5)-FB
Avengers 18
[...]
Journey into Mystery 120 (12:5 - 16): Loki rematerializes the helium Absorbing Man and sends him back to Earth.
Journey into Mystery 121
Avengers 21 (1 - 20:2)
Journey into Mystery 122 (1-9:1)
Avengers 21 (20:3 - 20:6)
Avengers 22 (1 - 11:3)
Avengers 22 (11:4)
Avengers 22 (11:6)
Journey into Mystery 122 (9:2-16)
Tales of Suspense 72 (1 - 8:4)
Tales of Suspense 72 (8:5 - 12:5):
Avengers 22 (12 - 20)
Marvels 3 (4:1 - 4:2)
Tales of Suspense 72 (12:6 - 12:9)
Journey into Mystery 123 (1-2): Thor prepares to take Hobbs to Asgard.
Avengers 22 (11:5): Thor arrives in Asgard.
Journey into Mystery 123 (3-16): Thor and Odin defeat the Absorbing Man.

I do admit that the whole FF Annual 3 has given me a headache because of all the characters involved. My own chronology has to be reviewed on that sequence so DO NOT consider my Apr 20, 2022 11:35 am post as final just yet. It has some discrepancies with the way all Official Indexes place it in relation to most comics.

It totally had the same idea about Phil developing his pics later on. Moving only the Tales of Suspense issues and leaving Marvels 3 (10:3-11:1) where it is totally works for me. Nothing in the narrative gives the time when the photos were taken.

A side note about the whole Marvels series, they are a beautiful retelling of early Marvel books from Phil perspective and could be viewed as one big flashback where Phil recalls all these events. Or at least, that's what I feel the narrative style seems to imply, but I may be totally wrong here. But if I'm right, the timeline of the Marvels segments doesn't matter as much.

The MCP's position is that Marvels is a true chronological record of events. Unlike the narrative style of Code of Honor, Marvels is taken from Phil Sheldon's copious notes, and he's as meticulous as Kurt Busiek. Here's what Russ had to say when i made a similar suggestion to yours.

Frankly, the easiest way to deal with the numerous incongrueties of M/M:MOTP is to disavow it altogether, but if it's going to be taken as canon, then it seems to read better this way, even though it pushes the events of FF 49-51 a little further back in the timeline.
I have a differing view. It's been previously established that writer Kurt Busiek took great pains to perform chronological analysis before writing the series, and his view, which we try to follow, was that A 26 took place before FF 49.

Now it's true that subsequent stories could potentially require that we revisit previous analyses and reshuffle things, and if truly necessary, reinterpreting that Phil Sheldon may have misremembered the order of events could be the way to go, but we only overrule Marvel's ordering of events if we can show that Marvel's order IS NOT POSSIBLE.

Unfortunately, "it seems to read better" doesn't rise to the level that we need. We may find oddities in Marvel's order, but unless it's categorically wrong, it is what it is.

Well, at least, now I know that I was not the only one to come up with yet another hypothesis! Note here that I will keep making my suggestions according to the original timeline. Whether or not you see fit to adjust your listing accordingly is entirely up to you and doesn't matter as much to me as you may think because I trust your judgment. I've learned to control my OCD and to let go once in a while.

RobinHoodMtl wrote: Sun Apr 24, 2022 1:21 pmAs for Thor's appearance in Fantastic Four Annual 3, Official Index for Thor places it after Journey Into Mystery 123.

So you're changing the A 22 (11:5) flashback into a flash-forward. :willynilly:

Okay, so i'm going along with this scheme until someone else comes up with a better mousetrap. Still have to look into the other issues, but getting there. I won't post the updates until we stop scratching at it.

RobinHoodMtl wrote: Sun Apr 24, 2022 1:21 pmThe Namor arc for the Trident quest is clearly referenced in Fantastic Four Annual 3 (page 18) where they explain that the impulse meant for the Sub-Mariner was intercepted by Attuma instead, because Namor was too deep into the ocean doing his quest.
I've sorted the TTA issues to honor the original plotline surrounding FF@ 3, but not exactly as you have it, so that it also honors the Marvels timeline. Since we're having Phil develops pics after the events in MARVELS 3 (10:3 - 11:1), i've also moved JIM 124-T 127 back to before Untold Legend of Captain Marvel, keeping it before TTA 79/2 for Hercules, which is where i had it before.

That works - thanks for that.

RobinHoodMtl wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 1:09 amAnother point I would make is that according the Official Index for Spider-Man, Spidey's appearance in Fantastic Four 36 occurs between Amazing Spider-Man 22 and 23. Therefore, I would move Amazing Spider-Man 23 and Gwen Stacy 1 (1 - 17) from the BIRTH OF THE AVENGERS to ENGAGEMENT OF REED AND SUE list and place right at the beginning of this list.
Doesn't work. Gwen Stacy 1 (1 - 17) specifically references ASM 23, and leads directly into FF 35. FF 35-36 will need to be moved for Spidey to accomodate this.

ASM 23 [The Bugle runs Foswell's story on Lucky Lobo]
GSTACY 1 (1 - 17) [Captain Stacy’s elbow-deep in the Lucky Lobo case, which was broken by Foswell’s story in the Bugle (ref. ASM 23); the news reports that Reed Richards of the FF will return to his old alma mater to deliver a lecture]
FF 35 [Reed heads to his old alma mater, State University (Hegeman), to deliver a lecture]
RobinHoodMtl wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 1:09 amOn final note, I don't understand why Strange Tales 145/2-146/2 would appear in next list instead of this one. They are independent stories and their publication date is June-July 1966. I would place them right after Strange Tales 145.
Two reasons. Firstly, because they are independent stories, and i thought this would be a good place to allow them to have a break and play catch-up with Nick Fury's stories. Secondly, ST 145/2 is set in March, which also allowed the placement near Fury's stories, although they are in the following year, due to storytelling shenanigans. However, they probably should go back to the previous March, which would place them straight after ST 144/2. ST 145 is in September for Fury.

Strange Tales 130/2-144/2
Strange Tales 145/2 [March]
Doctor Strange: The Last Days of Magic 1 (27 - 32)
Strange Tales 146/2
Doctor Strange: The Last Days of Magic 1 (33 - 35)

Yes, all those Marvels scenes repeated from earlier comics read better this way. It makes it clear they are not new scenes.
