Thor 10 begins "Weeks Ago," and shows Odin sending Cul on his covert mission to Svartalfheim in order to discover what Malekith is planning. Thor 9 ended with Cul during his mission to Svartalfheim, as he contacts Odin with intel about Malekith's Black Bifrost.

I believe the "weeks ago" refers to weeks before that final scene in Thor 9. Also, it appears to me that the entirety of Thor 10 is contained within that "weeks ago." In other words, the entire issue takes place out of sequence, before Thor 9, and likely just after Thor 8. There are several references throughout this issue to the events of Infinity Wars, which are mentioned as though they have occured in the very near past.

Also, I see that Col_Fury has placed T5 10 on Father's Day with a query, but apart from the theme of the issue (fathers and sons), i can't find any reference within the text to indicate that this should be set on that day.

I suggest that Thor 10 be moved in the scheme..

Here's a suggestion - what if we move WX3 15-16 down to just before WX3 17-21 and glue them together with IH2 717 (18-20). That would keep Logan's injuries fresh from his battle with Sabretooth, complying with his situation in WX3 17, and explain why they had to get a Blackbird from Kitty between WX3 16 & WX3 17, the Olympus Group having been put into receivership. OML's claws would have to be put down to an art error, but we've already done that with a few of his other appearances.

Speaking of WX3 17-21, these issues contain appearances by the Winter Guard. A7 10 starts with the Winter Guard being reinstated, and Ursa Major being held in the Last Gulag. It doesn't seem like there's been enough time elapsed between WX3 17-21 and A7 10 for the Winter Guard to have been disbanded. These issues only came out a couple of months before A7 10, and we don't have more than a month or so of elapsed time between the issues in the chronology as it stands.

The last time we saw Ursa Major, he was a prisoner of the Red Room, where he helped Black Widow escape back in Tales of Suspense, and i suggest that he is being held in the Last Gulag after having being moved from the Red Room facility.

If we allow that A7 10 (1 - 4) is a flashback, we can place this scene prior to the Winter Guard's appearances in WX3 20-21. This would fall during the gap in A7 8 (between pages 14 & 15). In A7 8 (15 - 20), Namor and the Atlanteans are already interfering with shipping, and there's no mention of how long this has been going on, so i don't think it's a problem that the Winter Guard is reinstated at this point in response to an Atlantean attack in the Black Sea.

I've encountered a few more problems in the timeline as we currently have it. Of particular note is that we have Namor addressing the UN on behalf of mutants and giving shelter to Jean Grey’s group in X:R 1-11 (April 18 - Feb 19) while at the same time he’s declared war on the entire surface world, and has renounced all of his surface world friends over in Avengers and Invaders. The Namor/X-Men Red business needs to be placed either before or after Namor’s holy war against the surface world.

Also we have Rogue and Gambit appearing in ASM5 1 while they're still in space. There are a couple of other issues as well, but the X-Men Red problem is going to require a major reshuffling of some parts of the deck, so i propose to review the entire timeline from Astonishing X-Men 1-12 on down. While i'm at it, i might take a look and see if there's anything else along the way that could be streamlined.

I will say that today's issue of Invaders (#9) has a reference to House of X / Powers of X (by way of Krakoa), so this entire volume is likely after WOTR (and therefore, after the current "Cap's a fugitive again" plot in his own book).

Thanks for that! I'm pretty sure we can get X-Men Red back before Namor's crusade against the surface, but it means moving a few chunks around. Looks like that will also facilitate getting the Winter Guard's appearance in Weapon X after their reinstatement in Avengers, so that's good. I was working on it most of the day yesterday, and probably will be during whatever time i get free today. Then i've gotta go back thru it all again and make sure it works.

Here's some other material i've worked on recently that i'll be incorporating into the revision.

Immortal Hulk 3 leads directly into IMMH 4. McGee has been investigating a Hulk incident in South Dakota. Langkowski contacts McGee at the end of IMMH 3 and she meets him at an airport in SD in IMMH 4. There shouldn’t be a gap between these two issues.

IMMH 6-7 (or more likely, IMMH 4-7) references Thunderbolt Ross (he doesn’t appear) which places this issue at least after CA8 2. Bruce hasn’t turned into Hulk since IMMH 5, but there’s no real mention of how long it’s been. Shaman is still doing magic tests on Sasquatch, so a few days maybe?

A character from IMMH 2 shows up, but again, no real mention of how long it’s been. The Avengers appear.

IMMH 8 happens at some later point, but Hulk can’t appear in the meantime. Sasquatch says it’s been “months” since IMMH 1.

The situation on Alpha Flight seems to indicate that not more than a day or two has passed.

SS:BD 1 (SILVER SURFER: BEST DEFENSE) leads in to where N:BD 1 ends.

N:BD 1 (NAMOR: BEST DEFENSE) spans a week and starts before IMMH:BD 1 and ends at roughly the same time. Most likely after X:R, but I can see this being either before or after A7 10 (Namor is working to bolster Atlantis' strength here, so probably after A7 10?).

DS:BD 1 (DOCTOR STRANGE: BEST DEFENSE) leads in to the situation Hulk finds in IMMH:BD 1. IMMH:BD 1-FB happens shortly after this.

IMMH:BD 1 (IMMORTAL HULK: BEST DEFENSE) has Bruce wearing the same clothes he had in IMMH 8, so shortly after that.

DEF:BD 1 (DEFENDERS: BEST DEFENSE) says that the alternate reality Strange has only been in this world for a few hours. Also, everything gets wrapped up. Pretty good, too!

IMMH 9 has Hulk finally getting to his “home,” where he’s wanted to get to since IMMH 6. Also, last issue was yesterday. IMMH 10 is the same day and ends on a cliffhanger. Also, Absorbing Man mentions that Titania has found a "regular" job, so this is likely after the current WH arc (which has to be after IWARS because of a surprise guest star).

I’m guessing that IMMH 8 couldn’t have been yesterday, since we have it listed further down the scheme. I haven’t read that far down yet.

** Iron Man is still using Motherboard, so TSIM 6-11, where Motherboard is destroyed, must go after IMMH 3-8.

TSIM 5 happens in a day and reveals Arno Stark is working for Sunset Bain.

TSIM 6-11 happens in a day and has some guest appearances. Captain America, the Champions (Miles, Ms. Marvel, Viv, Wasp, Ironheart). This is probably before CHMPS3 1 where Ironheart (apparently) leaves the team temporarily. Also, at least TSIM 4 has to go before UWASP2 1 (Tony and Janet start dating in TSIM, they’re already dating in UWASP).

Also, Baintronics celebrates their publicity victory over Stark; “2020 is ours for the taking!” (hee hee!)

TSIM 12, a WOTR tie-in that happens before WOTR 1, says that TSIM 1 was “a few weeks ago.” That won’t hold up.

I suggest we place TSIM 6-11 after IHRT 1, moving it down the list, rather than moving Immortal Hulk and Best Defense up the list.

Also, i would place TSIM 4 a bit earlier, not too long after TSIM 3. It still seems pretty summery, but Bethany refers to TSIM 2 as having been “last month,” so this would be early-mid September. A week passes between pages 2 & 3, and i would suggest making the placement either side of PPSSM 310.

Also there’s a flashback in A7 11 (Squadron Supreme repelling Defenders of the Deep “three days ago”) to be placed prior to A7 11.

Here we go.. I’ve highlighted in red the issues that i’ve moved.

Firstly, in order to get Winter Guard’s appearance in Weapon X 20-21 after their reinstatement in Avengers 8-10, i’ve had to juggle some Old Man Logan issues, so i’ve taken the opportunity to sort some of this section more in line with publication dates where possible.

Moved up with these Old Man Logans are ASM 797-801 and DD 598-605 and the issues that are tied to them.

Mid-August (Marvel time) titles have been brought up the list, extending the action thru August somewhat. I’ve done this to allow for ASM5 1 to include appearances by Rogue and Gambit before they head into space.

I’ve streamlined Infinity Countdown and moved WH 1-2 and MK 194 more in line with their publication dates. Some of the early issues of TS:Iron Man’s and Immortal Hulk’s have also been moved up a little to reflect their publication dates.

The next major section to be moved contains X:B 36, X:G 36, Rogue & Gambit’s return to Earth in time to appear in X-Men: Red, all 11 issues of which i’ve kept together, prior to the Winter Guard appearances in Avengers and Weapon X. This allows for Namor’s appearances in X:R 1-11 to occur prior to his crusade against the surface world.

As a result of this arrangement, i was able to streamline some of the Hunt for Wolverine series, bring Dead Ends up closer to the rest of the series, and keep most of the X-Men: Black issues together.

Winter Soldier 1-5 has been moved up the list to the summer, where it’s set, and where it fits nicely with publication dates.

I’ve split off A7 10 (41 - 50) from the rest of the issue, keeping this section after ICDWN 5, placed Thor 10 after Thor 8, reshuffled Avengers 11 and Iron Man 5, and moved Superior Spider-Man 1-6 up to the end of the semester, where it’s set.


I’ve swapped over XFOR5 1-6 (after UX@5 1, UX5 10) and
W:IW 1-5 (shortly after X-Men die, after FF5 4, IWARS ∞) simply based on publication dates, and it seemed to work better that way around.

The sequence involving UX 11-15, Mr & Mrs X 7-12, and Captain Marvel 1-5 ahs been placed before Avengers 14, as i discussed in a previous post.

I haven’t yet had a chance to read Weapon H 8-12, but Col_Fury’s notes place it either before or after Immortal Hulk 8. I’ve placed it in both positions for now, and attached IMMH 3 to 4-8 as discussed in a previous post.

IMMH 9-13 has been moved to after Hulkverines, but that’s based on publication dates more than anything else.

ASM 14-23 has been moved down to the summer break where it’s set. ASM 24-25 begin after the summer break, and should probably go after WOTR. I moved Dr Strange 12-17 a bit further down the list based solely on publication dates.

I’ve probably overlooked something - i usually do, but i’ve gone over it a few times and it seems to work. I have copious note, so feel free to quiz me.

Col_Fury’s done an amazing job getting most of this list mapped out pretty much on his own for the majority of the second half of this chronology, and i’m just following along and trying to iron out the wrinkles, which wouldn’t even be possible if Fury hadn’t already mapped it out for me to follow.

I haven’t finished reading thru all of these issues yet either, so there may still be more little gems of uncertainty to unearth…

ASM5 14 has Arcade based out of Bagalia, and so has to happen at some point before P12 7, where Punisher drives Baron Zemo out of Bagalia and effectively topples the government.

Okay, i see what's going on. This is in the T5 12-FB, not T5 10, and is a completely different incident. You're just trying to confuse me. Guess what, it worked!

I've read T5 8-10 over again and i stand by my belief that the whole of T5 10 occurs "weeks ago." Thor 10 begins "Weeks Ago," and shows Odin sending Cul on his covert mission to Svartalfheim in order to discover what Malekith is planning. Thor 9 ends with Cul during his mission to Svartalfheim, as he contacts Odin with intel about Malekith's Black Bifrost. Also, in T5 8, Odin calls for mead and begins forging hammers alongside Screwbeard. In T5 10, Screwbeard is drunk from too much mead, and Odin has just finished forging his hammer. Again also, although there's a "Weeks Ago" box, there's no "Now" box.

Here's a revised revision (hic!) that only moves the issues that need to be moved in order to fix a number of problems. There's still quite a lot of them. I still think it's possible in retrospect to streamline Infinity Countdown, Hunt for Wolverine, and X-Men Black, but i haven't done so here this time. The new placements are in Dark Blue, and the original placements are in Red.

Weapon H 8-12 has to take place before Immortal Hulk 9, but also beofre Thor 9/Avengers 12.

At the end of WH 12, Dario Agger is placed under house arrest. In T5 9, Agger has been under house arrest for two weeks.

In IMMH 9 (1) Creel is arrested by Iron Man, and there’s a strong impication in both WH 8 & IMMH 9 that this is either during or very shortly after WH 8-12. Let’s assume for simplicity that it’s immediately afterwards.

IMMH 9 (5) is two weeks later, so immediately after T5 9. IMMH 9 (3) is sometime between the two appearances.

IMMH 9 (7) is about four days later, and eleven days before IMMH 9. Creel is brought to Shadow Base.

IMMH 9 (9) is the following day. Creel is given the Hulk plug-in.

IMMH 9 (11) is five days later. Creel has been turned red.

The rest of IMMH 9 takes place the days after Dr Clive was killed by Hulk in IMMH 8.

Given the above timeline of events for IMMH 3-8, IMMH 9 (11) would be placed between the SS: BD 1-FB and SS:BD 1.

CA8 6 would have to be placed immediately before IMMH 8 (9 - 20), and IMMH 9-13 would have to follow on immedieately from DEF:BD 1, as it’s the day after Clive was killed. Since IMMH 17-18 (1 - 2) has Ross’s funeral, these issues would have to go soon after that. But Avengers: No Road Home and Hulkverines occurs in the mean time. I'm thinking that Ross's funeral at West Point may have taken a little longer than normal to arrange.

Assuming T5 12-FB to occur on Father's Day, June 16, and ASM5 24 to occur on the given date of June 26, then WOTR would have to occur very shortly after that date. FF5 5-9 is "nine days before" WOTR, so would have to be moved down a little to between T5 12-FB and ASM 24.

We have MG&DDINO 38-41 a few days before the start of summer break. According to a google search of various academic calendars in NYC, although the dates are slightly variable, this is likely the third week in May. We want all of the Hulk and Avengers items in June, so i've moved the kids listings up the timeline.

Arrrgh! I still managed to cock that up. Dumb brain - need more bourbon. I forgot to move A7 8-10 after X:R 1-11. Talk about dumb Hulk. That was the whole reason for this in the first place.

That's been corrected, and i've also had to move WX3 15-27 and OML2 41-45 to go along with it. The only problem i can see is that i can't place IH2 717 (18-20) in with that, so that will have to stay in its original position. I've also moved P12 1-6 into the week long break during X:R 10 just to break that up, and also Punisher addressed thew UN a couple of months before Jean Grey by publication date.

Also, there's a full moon depicted in A7 10, and there was a full moon on Sept 24 2018, so that fits nicely. Hopefully i haven't forgotten anything else, but i probably have.

Red Goblin: Red Death 1, first story, appears to take place immediately following ASM 796.

Story 2 appears to take place between the ASM 797 flashbacks and ASM 797, main story.

Story 3’s flashback appears to take place between ASM 799 & ASM 800, and is set on Halloween.

The rest of story 3 occurs a short time later, probably after ASM 800-801.

The Halloween reference is likely to be dismissed on first inspection, but i believe that with a little reshuffling we can fit that in. Currently, the way the Secret Empire to War of the Realms list is set up, we have one year passing, roughly from June to June, while two years worth of comics were released. As everyone knows, i believe in allowing the years to unfold as they’re shown in the comics, and having Marvel time compressed later in retrospect.

Therefore, i suggest the following modifications to the timeline..

MSM4 19-22 is already listed as Summer. Let’s bring CA 695, set on July 4th and “a few months after Secret Empire,” back to immediately before this listing, and place ASM 789, “Weeks after Secret Empire” immediately before that..

Since Red Goblin: Red Death 1/3-FB seems like it would have to occur between ASM 799 & ASM 800, and is set at Halloween, this would have to be placed before DS 381-385, which is set around Christmas, but we can’t place them any earlier than IM 600. While we’re in this section, Red Death 1/2 is placed between the ASM 797 flashbacks and ASM 797, and Red Death 1/3 current pages should be placed after ASM 800-801.

The next listings to appear that have dates attached are DP:ASSN 1-6 (1 - 18), which is set during Mardi Gras (i know, it’s always Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but this now fits nicely into the scheme). Further down is HFW:CK 1-4, set in April, before we get to USQG2 32-35 in mid-August, so this all seems to work nicely.
