The Promise, 10 pages

Synopsis: Captain is invited to a funeral ceremony and says how he met Sung Jin, the deceased, and befriended him.

The story is naturally full of flashbacks, the most recent is the conclusion of Secret Empire, which means the present sequence occurs some time after that. I identified three new flashbacks, eight retold and two uncertain flashbacks.

Cap joins SHIELD in TOS 78.
Per the narration the meeting with Sung Jin occurs at a time when Cap's identity is secret so before TOS 94 or after CA 113. (This could be also after CA 111 with a tweak--the secret would be that he's alive.)

The flashback with the Kooky Quartet Avengers could be after the meeting with Sung Jin (illustrating the words "We threw ourselves into our work") or before it (illustrating the words "We were both facing new challenges"). The reference to SHIELD and the raincoat make me favor CA 113 and thus the second interpretation.

Note: CA 179-FB after CA 113 (circa A 61) is a poor placement as Clint Barton says leaving the Avengers in A 109 (he leaves the team on page 20) occurs shortly after that flashback. Having it circa A 61 means a 50-issues gap. A note from editor Roy Thomas in CA 179 also says this flashback occurs after the Space Phantom story (in A 107-108). So it must occur on page 7 of A 109 right after Hawkeye resumes his original costume.
