How many is a group?

Post by zilch »

Just a quick question that always bothers me when i index...

Say in a group shot of a bunch of heroes, we see Cyclops and Angel. Is that just two single characters or is it the X-Men?

I'd say yeah. The entire group doesn't have to be present to represent a group, right?

Depends on context - if you've got a meeting of Captain America, Cyclops, Mr Fantastic and other team leaders, Cyclops is representing the X-Men, but he *isn't* the X-Men.

I wouldn't say two was enough (except when it's such a small group they're at least half of it) unless there's some indication there's more off-panel. Three, maybe. Four, probably. Five+ definitely... provided they're all together. If you've got some huge George Perez-ish splash and Wolverine's in one corner, Psylocke's in another and Dazzler's somewhere around the middle, they're not there as a group.

That's a good point.
