SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #166 (November 1989)
By Gerry Conway & Mike Docherty

King Conan & his King’s Dagger crew (inc Gobo) & his new crew (inc Janta), Kuzko residents (inc Sinchi, Yuhar, Huayna, Atahulph, Lord-Inka (Manko Capak), the Coya (Manko’s sister)), Lord-Inka (Yupanqui, Manko’s brother) & his men, Malquis (Manko’s father, mummified)

SYNOPSIS:
Caught in a storm at sea for eight days, King Conan is shipwrecked. After fighting a giant one-eyed octopus, Conan and the only other survivor (Gobo) seek shelter. They’re attacked by some warriors; Conan defeats them, but “surrenders” to see if he can get a ship from them. After some shenanigans in Kuzko, the Lord-Inka tells Conan he wants him to steal his father’s corpse from his brother. As he leaves to do so, Gobo overhears Lord-Inka’s plan to kill Conan when the mission is done. Conan finds the corpse and meets Yupanqui, who says his sister stole the throne from him. Yupanqui, a necromancer, has the mummy attack Conan, but he dismembers it, shocking Yupanqui. Gobo arrives, knock out the necromancer and tells Conan of the plot against him. Conan displays the mutilated mummy in Kuzko’s town square; the populace revolts and Yupanqui is made the new Lord-Inka. Conan gets his new ship and crew.

NOTE:
When Conan’s ship is wrecked and he thinks he’s going to die, his only thought is to wonder what color his son’s eyes are.

SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #169 (February 1990)

SYNOPSIS:
King Conan arrives in Tarantia to find it’s changed in his absence. He’s accosted by toll keepers, so he kills some and drives the others away. Conan recognizes Pallantides’ horse in front of a tavern and confronts him. Once he recognizes Conan beneath the beard, Pallantides tells Conan what’s up. Conan tells Pallantides to find Prospero and get the army back. He tells Gobo and Janta to take a secret passage to his throne room and meet him there in an hour. Then, Conan shaves his beard. He approaches his palace and battles the Brothers of the Skull, realizing too late they’re zombies. He’s defeated and brought inside, as a prisoner. Akhmet Ta orders the hypnotized Zenobia to kill Conan, but when she sees him her hypnosis is broken. Conan fights the zombies until Gobo arrives, chased by an army of rats. The rats kill Akhmet Ta and the zombies fall. Pallantides arrives with Prospero and Conan is reunited with his son, Prince Conn.

NOTE:
Surprisingly for a Marvel comic magazine from 1990, Akhmet Ta calls Zenobia a bitch.

The second story, a Red Sonja tale, was covered elsewhere.

The third story, a King Kull yarn, is already in the MCP.
