SYNOPSIS:
The leaders of the Axis powers are getting together for a strategy meeting, and the Victory Boys hear about it. They give those bums a hard time and run off back into the Black Forest.
NOTE:
According to the forward in this Masterworks volume, the Victory Boys also appeared in Comedy Comics #10, and that issue reveals their back story (they’re a group of orphans whose various parents were killed by the Nazis). From what I can see, Comedy Comics #10 hit stands on March 25, 1942 and USA Comics #5 came out on August 15, 1942. They’ll appear again in ALLWS:BH where they all die.

5th Story:
By ???
This Blue Blade story is already in the MCP. The TWELVE series retconned the Blue Blade into an actor, which means this adventure is likely just a serial picture (or something). That makes a lot more sense than a guy with a cape and no shirt riding his horse around the country fighting spies. Either way, this would still be an appearance for him (filmed or not).
NOTE:
Followed by “Dead Man’s Warning” text story.
6th Story:
By Melville Henry & Jack Alderman
APPEARANCES:
Roko the Amazing (Lon Craig, art student), Menalaos, art teacher & students, McClure & his saboteur, police, bystanders
SYNOPSIS:
Art student Lon Craig meets the spirit of Menalaos who grants his super abilities when Lon says the magic word “Illium.” He uses his new powers to stop some rich jerk from sabotaging buildings so he can buy up cheap property. Also, Lon thinks it’s just groovy that he can be like Captain America now.
7th Story:
By Ed Winiarsky
APPEARANCES:
Gypo the Gypsy Giant (& his dragon Fido & his wife), Bobby & his mother
SYNOPSIS:
Gypo tries to scare a little boy (Bobby), but he’s terrible at scaring children. Gypo introduces Bobby to his pet dragon and his harpy wife.
NOTE:
Bobby’s mom seems REALLY old to have an eight-or-so year old son.
8th Story:
By ???
APPEARANCES:
Sgt. Jeff Dix (and his family), “Fish Face” Friday (Dix’s pal), other soldiers, Japanese soldiers
SYNOPSIS:
Sgt. Dix is sent to Panama where he beats up a bunch of Japanese soldiers.
NOTE:
Dix got a promotion since last issue. He’s called both Corporal and Sergeant through this story, so it must have been a recent change.
9th Story:
By Lou Paige
“Patent Pending” comedy gag page. No named characters, but I’m pretty sure the strip appears in other books.
10th Story:
By Vince Alascia
APPEARANCES:
American Avenger (Don Caldwell, “el Gaucho, also in fb), Carlos Ramirez (Don’s friend, in fb), Nazis, bystanders
FLASHBACK:
Don Caldwell goes to university in South America where he falls in love with the culture. Also, he becomes the American Avenger, patterned after el Gaucho, a local folk hero.

NOTE:
It’s a humor strip, and it’s silly.

Captain Daring, having met the British spy while in prison, learns the guy was only doing it because his family was captured by the Nazis. When he learned they died months ago in a concentration camp he switched sides again. Valerie Welling is very willing to thank Captain Daring when he returns. *wink wink*

Gypo the Gypsy Giant (& his dragon Fido & his wife), Bobby & his mother
SYNOPSIS:

By Vince Alascia

*wink wink*
