Dave Dean in Funny Pages

Post by vanhornluke »

FUNNY PAGES VOL. 2 #1 (Sep 1937)

16th Story:
By Norman Daniels

APPEARANCES:
Dave Dean, Wing Po, Shorty, Janet Winslow, Deep Sea Demon (Philip Blackwood), divers

SYNOPSIS:
A “water ghost” has been terrorizing divers, but Dave Dean eventually discovers that the “ghost” is actually Philip Blackwood, who has been killing divers to keep all their finds for himself.

NOTE:
The handbooks confirm Dave Dean is a 616 character. His only Marvel appearance is in Mystic Comics #1, which is a reprint of this story. Since MCP typically lists the original stories rather than their reprints (and Col_Fury’s recent breakdown of Mystic Comics #1-4 omitted the reprint), I’ve provided the breakdown for this original appearance instead. Since this is the only story in this issue confirmed as 616, I haven’t bothered to break down the other stories in this or the other issues.
