Civil War v2 #1-5

Post by Col_Fury »

CIVIL WAR v2 #1 (September 2015)
By Charles Soule & Leinil Francis Yu

APPEARANCES:
Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Tigra, Hercules, Radioactive Man, Dagger, Doc Samson, Storm, Vision, Howard the Duck, Luke Cage, Daredevil (Matt Murdock), Wonder Man, Hulkling, Ms. Marvel, Sentry, Bullseye, Lady Deathstrike, Venom (Mac Gargan), Cyclops, Black Panther (actually Veranke, revealed in #5), Cloak, Wiccan, Spider-Woman, Maria Hill, Wasp, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Green Goblin, Stature, Miriam Sharpe, Emma Frost, Mary Jane Watson-Parker, Maybelle Parker

SYNOPSIS:
During the super hero Civil War, both sides fight in Prison 42 until an explosion kills a bunch of heroes. Shortly afterward, with far less heroes around, no one seemd to be in charge and skirmishes continued. A Skrull invasion was barely thwarted and the Green Goblin trying to take over the United States almost came to pass. America was eventually divided in halves, one overseen by Captain America with a libertarian view (the Blue), and the other presided over by Iron Man with an authoritarian view (the Iron). Six years later, a child is found to have super powers in the Iron, and is taken from her family and enrolled in a special school because of what she might do. A child is found to have super powers in the Blue, and is told to do what he wants with the suggestion to help people. Meanwhile, Miriam Sharpe wants to negotiate a truce between the Blue and the Iron. She arranges a meeting between Captain America (joined by Spider-Man) and Iron Man (joined by She-Hulk); Spider-Man is allowed to spend time with his wife and daughter (who live in the Iron). During the negotiations, Miriam Sharpe is assassinated. Cap sends Spider-Man to find out who fired the shot, which came from the Blue, but the gun is automated. Cap, knowing the shot was intended for him and not Miriam, declares he’s going to put an end to this war.

NOTE:
Iron Fist was acting as Daredevil during Earth-616’s Civil War, but this issue notes Daredevil is Matt Murdock in this reality. Also, Venom is noted as Mac Gargan. Lots of other names are mentioned too, but those seemed like they should be pointed out.

CIVIL WAR v2 #2 (October 2015)
By Charles Soule & Leinil Francis Yu

APPEARANCES:
Iron Man, Storm, Colossus, Magneto (bts), Col. Barnes, She-Hulk (Cmdr. Walters, also as “Angie Walker”), Captain America (Gen. Rogers), Spider-Man, Beast, Sandman (William Baker, “Flint Marko”), Elektra, Black Panther (Azari), Venom (Clint Barton), Professor X

SYNOPSIS:
Stark sends a drone into the Blue to see what he can find out, but it’s found by Storm and destroyed. Colossus and Magneto throw it back into the Iron with a “Next time it’s a Hulk!” note attached. Cap and Spider-Man talk about what to do next. Stark tells She-Hulk he thinks someone s orchestrated events. Sandman, found guilty of murder in the Blue, has his powers removed and is imprisoned instead of being turned over to the Punishers. Beast reveals he needs more fuel to use the de-powering machine again, but the only resource is in the Iron. Spider-Man takes a team to get some but they’re attacked by Iron Sentinels. Meanwhile, She-Hulk goes undercover into the Blue to look into Stark’s hunch.

NOTE:
Beast mentions possible assistance from outside this Domain, so at least some people seem to be aware they’re on Battleworld. That’s good, because they’re getting help from other Domains in Inhumans: Attilan Rising and other Domains are aware of this one in Captain Britain & the Mighty Defenders.

CIVIL WAR v2 #3 (October 2015)
By Charles Soule & Leinil Francis Yu

APPEARANCES:
Elektra (corpse), Black Panther II, Venom II, Spider-Man, Professor X, She-Hulk (as “Angie Walker”), Robbie Baldwin, Iron Man, Col. James Barnes, King Ock (Wilson Fisk), Bullseye, Remy LeBeau, Punisher, Beast, Veranke (as Black Panther)

SYNOPSIS:
Elektra is killed but Spider-Man and the others continue to fight past the Iron Sentinels. She-Hulk makes it into the Blue but is soon recognized by Robbie Baldwin. Spider-Man and the others fight King Ock (Kingpin’s corpse controlled by Octavius’ arms) and get what they’re looking for. She-Hulk confirms Bullseye killed Miriam Sharpe but is captured by the Punishers (of which Baldwin is one). Spider-Man gives Beast wat he needs, but admits he doesn’t feel anything anymore. She-Hulk wakes up and is confronted by the thought dead Black Panther.

NOTE:
Baldwin and LeBeau are both now Punisher officers, and Robbie makes it clear he’s no longer Speedball. They're not both "Punisher," though, just officers in the Punisher group.

Like in the original Civil War story, Iron Man is employing villains (Bullseye, Lady Deathstrike, etc.).

CIVIL WAR v2 #4 (November 2015)
By Charles Soule & Leinil Francis Yu

APPEARANCES:
Captain America, Spider-Man, Beast, Iron Man, Col. James Barnes, Punisher, She-Hulk, Veranke (also as Black Panther), Storm, Stature, Hulk, Colossus, Ghost Rider, Magneto, Venom II, Deadpool, Hercules, Bullseye, Black Panther II, Luke Cage, Vision, Emma Frost, Sentry, Wiccan, Ms. Marvel, Jewel

SYNOPSIS:
After years of the Iron restricting access to food and supplies to the Blue (Stark embargoed trading partners, threatened potential allies, spread lies, etc.), Captain America decides it’s time to end the Civil War. Meanwhile, Iron Man searches for She-Hulk but is captured by Skrulls, learning that Veranke has been manipulating events for years. The Blue invades the Iron and Cap prepares to detonate a bomb that will rob the Iron (and some of the Blue, but not as many because they know it’s coming) of their super powers.

NOTE:
Stark’s restricting of access to food and supplies to the Blue is why other Domains have been helping the Blue. Revealed this issue, just sosyaknows.

There are generic-looking army versions of Giant-Men, an Angel and a Vulture in this issue and next. There are more than one Giant-Man, so I’m not going to suggest a listing for these guys. Also, there are several people using Falcon wings, but there’s no indication they’re all part of a Flacon Corps or anything, so again, I’m not going to list them. Both Angel and Vulture are wearing masks, and like the Giant-Men are in generic uniforms. I’m going to assume they’re not the classic versions and err on the side of caution by not listing the either.

CIVIL WAR v2 #5 (December 2015)
By Charles Soule & Leinil Francis Yu

APPEARANCES:
Iron Man, She-Hulk, Captain America, Storm, Black Panther II, Jewel, Sentry, Venom II, Hulk (Logan), Deadpool, Hercules, Ghost Rider, Magneto, Vision, Luke Cage, Wiccan, Spider-Man, Punisher (bts), Col. Barnes (actually a Skrull), Nitro (bts), Radioactive Man (bts), Stature, Beast, Colossus, Ms. Marvel, Emma Frost, Veranke, Mary Jane Watson-Parker, Maybelle Parker

FLASHBACK:
Black Panther (actually Veranke) sets off a bomb killing a bunch of heroes (repeat of #1-FB, new revelation but no new scenes).
SYNOPSIS:
While everyone fights, Iron Man tells Captain America about the Skrulls. They use Cap’s bomb to take away the Skrulls’ shape-changing abilities, but they both die in the blast. Two months later, Spider-Man and (the now powerless) She-Hulk oversee the reconstruction and chat. Peter reveals that Mary Jane chose to live in the Iron because she felt safety was more important than liberty, but Spider-Man felt otherwise and chose the Blue. They’re trying to patch things up.

NOTE:
As #5 spells out, the moral of the story is (exemplified through the Skrulls’ machinations), a small group spreading lies and misinformation can destabilize a society pretty quick. And since people are prone to believe what reinforces their pre-existing views, regardless of whether the given information is true or not, fixing it after things gets bad is usually tough. Interestingly, the Skrulls seemingly only chose to manipulate the Iron (the only Skrull reveal was Barnes, who was one of Stark’s aides; Veranke kept off to the side).

On an unrelated note, I’ve seen some online resources say Veranke was posing as Spider-Woman in issue #1. While it’s true that Veranke was posing as Spider-Woman during Civil War on Earth-616, #5 makes it clear she was posing as Black Panther in #1. So, you know, there’s that.

It’s implied that in this reality, Bucky never returned; it was a Skrull the whole time.

This mini has to happen at least after Inhumans: Attilan Rising, because the status of this Domain pre-#5’s end is referenced there. Also, this has to happen “shortly” before CB&MDEF 1-2, because that Domain hasn’t yet heard that Stark has died. Since CB&MDEF 1-2 has to happen between SECWARS 5-6, it’s likely the two months later portion of #5 may happen after Battleworld is broken back up into individual realities. But that’s mostly academic.
