Ultimate math!

I'm scratching my head over Ultimate Spider-Man.

Volume 1 ran for 133 issues.
Volume 2 ran for 15 issues.
Volume 1 then picks back up again at #150. However, math tells me that 133 + 15 = 148. Where's the 149th issue of Ultimate Spider-Man?

Volume 1 then ran from #150 to #160.
The next series, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, ran for 28 issues.
Volume 1 then picks back up again at #200. However, math tells me that 160 + 28 = 188. Where are the subsequent twelve issues needed to get to #200?

I have to be missing something here. Anyone know what the deal is?

Playing host to Mr. Cock-Up, similar to "Incredible Hulk #600" which would have been the 599th issue of H2 in a direct sequence. Funnily enough, if they'd done it an issue earlier, they could have claimed the Ultimatum two-shot for the numbers...

Well, since this blog resorts to adding the Point 1 issue, a cover gallery, Annuals and ignoring the missing #149...

Meanwhile, Bendis's own version - http://brianmichaelbendis.tumblr.com/po ... eleased-in - includes:
A Man Who Can't Even Get His Own Books' Chronology Straight wrote:> So since Ultimate Spider-man #200 is being released in April, but 160 + 28 = 188 and there are 3 issues of the Cataclysm mini series... What are the other 9 issues that count?

so that is 191, then…

ultimate spidey special 1

spider-men 5

two ultimatum issues

4 annuals- they count!

i could also count ultimate six because they are listed in trade as usm.

not even including the death of spidey epilogue issues

i win :)
So, yeah...

I suppose the best you'll get is:
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #1-133
  • Ultimate Spider-Man Super Special #1 (134)
  • Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1-15 (149)
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #150-160 (160)
  • Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1-28 (188)
  • Spider-Men #1-5 (193)
  • Cataclysm: Ultimate Spider-Man #1-3 (196)
And you can't get three more before going back before "#150", unfortunately. So I'll add what were basically two issues of the series:
  • Ultimatum - Ultimate Spider-Man Requiem #1-2 (198)
... and, yeah, that last one is tricky. Don't want to add an Annual, #½ or #16.1 since they all explicitly sit outside the numbering sequence, but given that I've already had to resort to freaking sequence-breaking, I'm just going to call the 199th issue...
  • Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #16.1 (199)
...and have done with it! [The other possibility would have been some of Ultimate Fallout #1-6, but only some of those issues - the debut of Miles, most notably - are really USM-relevant, it seems, but slicing up a mini like that to take three issues from six is even more artificial...]

Yikes. I guess I wasn't missing anything.

I didn't think about Ultimate Fallout and Spider-Men, but Spider-Men was published concurrently with the main book; I wouldn't have thought about including that anyway.

Oh, math. Why is counting so hard?

'Tis only hard if you want it to be.

(And Bendis likes it hard baby, yeah! :!:)
